--
I completed the blocks for my Twilter's Bee Block swap: easy and quick 16 patch for a postage stamp quilt!

--
I was planning to participate to the Bag It event with a lot of pouches made with an available free online tutorial, but after the horror story of interacting with the rude designer for the free tutorial, I decided to create my own patterns and designs! I will make few more pouches to take pictures of the process (which is super easy and fast) and I will share the pattern in the next few weeks!

This pouch uses two layer cake squares and one jelly roll... that's it!! (and a zipper and interfacing)... It's the perfect size for sewing supplies on the go and it has handles! It is just perfect!

Pattern for the "A Piece of Cake" zipper pouch coming soon!!

And last, but not least, on MONDAY the Art with Fabric Blog hop will start!!
There are going to be a great number of amazing pieces!! I hope you come back and hop around to visit all the talented artists!!

I joined another QAL, because this looks so fun and easy! It's all done with the same block, and it's super perfect for all the tiny scraps I have, from all colors of the rainbow!

This is my block
I decided to go with black background and scrappy aqua/teal/light blue as secondary!!

--
I completed the blocks for my Twilter's Bee Block swap: aren't these little birds cute?

    --
Seriously... last week I mentioned 5 reasons why I love Melissa's (HappyQuilting) QAL... let's add another one: it is so easy to catch up!!

With her easy and clear instructions it took me just 3 nights to make all the Flying Geese and all the Drunkard Path blocks!!
Some are perfect, like painted by Giotto... other are less perfect, like painted by Giotto's 1 year old son moderately drunk ;) but I really enjoyed the process, especially because I alternated FG and DP construction so I wouldn't get bored or frustrated. By the end of the process, I think I am a pro at curved piecing (especially considering that I am not precise cutting the pieces).

Since I caught up with all the FG, I wanted to see how all the pieces look on my design floor :)

(mising some 3'' squares, but everything else looks great!)

Making this project I learned a fantastic lesson: when we use the "no waste or little waste" methods (for either HST, FG or DP) directional fabric and stripes are tricky because pieces will go in opposite directions. However... if you mix the stripes with gingham fabric and polka dots, the "misaligned" lines won't be so striking and they will blend right in with the rest (or at least that what my eyes thinks :) ). Also mixing the scale probably helps.

I am looking forward to the assembly direction because it was quite challenging to arrange those pieces without the clear instructions that Melissa always has!! :)

    --
By chance, the August board for my Play with Me QAL is also featuring curved piecing! However the pieces here are much much bigger so they are easier to stitch (and they are also fewer ;) ).

If you are interested in learning more about the QAL, you can read everything on the Play with Me QAL official page!

    --
I made two blocks from my August's partner for the  Hello Block Swap.

    --
Finally I finished quilting around each character!

Now I just need to add a border and I will be done. I took the quilt to the quilt shop to pick the perfect fabric. A lady saw the quilt and said "oh, this is so cute, a little kid will be so happy to have it!" and then she corrected herself "oh, well, maybe this is for a teenager"... well... the last time I was called a "teenager" was about 20 years ago ;)
Minions are for all ages!! :)
P.S. I am finishing up the pattern for the "tower of minions" block and tonight I will submit it to Fandom in Stitches, so it will be available soon for others to enjoy!! :)

Back to crafting (and a linky party)

I came back home from the work trip.
I don't have much to share but something is better than nothing!

    The Ongoing Project List:
    1. Play with Me QAL - August pattern ready to stitch
    2. WGACA projects (changed projects)
      1. Charity Quilts for DC General Homeless Shelter project - no progress
      2. SECRET quilt for exhibit - (FDJ) - dropped. Too many other things to do this month
      3. Minion QAL - no progress
      4. Mirror Mirror Afghan - no progress
      5. Hello Block Swap - two blocks done (see below)
      6. Splendid Sampler - one block done (see below)
      7. Road Home Row-A-Long - no progress on finishing my piece
      The EverythingElse List:
      1. 70273 Project - no progress
      2. Jane T - no progress
      3. The SK project - three blocks done (see below)
      4. the 31000 Xs project - no progress
      5. Spirit cross stitch project - no progress
      6. Alice in Wonderland quilt - no progress
      7. As You Wish -  no progress

      9. Memory quilt 2 - no progress
      10. Gyleen's BCP Mystery QAL - no progress
      --
I made two blocks from my July's partner for the  Hello Block Swap.

      Blocks I made for Laura
      --
I also finished block 36 of the Splendid Sampler project.
While I like embroidery, I hate french knots and I don't like much the lazy daisy stitch.
However I wanted to give this block a try as close to the original as possible.
In this block I also experimented with glow in the dark embroidery thread (works great) and with the soluble sulky embroidery stabilizer (it was ok... I was able to see the stitches traced on it and it washed away just fine. I didn't particularly enjoyed stitching on it, but probably just because I didn't stabilized properly)

      Block 35
      --
The only other thing I made are three blocks for my Stephen King project.
I prepared 5 blocks for my trip as I thought I would have time to make them.
While I had time, I didn't seem to be in the mood. So I made half of one during the trip and completed the rest yesterday.
The Long Walk, The Stand, Gerald's Game (7.5''x5'')

Well, I hope to have a more productive week ahead!

      --
Oh, I also added some side panels to this great t-shirt I got in the kids section of a shop :) I got the biggest size they had but it was still a little too tight on the belly :) I watched some youtube tutorials and then I gave it a try. Easier than I thought!! It is not perfect but I use it as a pijamas so who cares! Next time I will add less fabric (because now it's a little too big) and I will make it narrower at the top. But as a first experiment this went great!!

A lot got done (and a link party)

After a week of not sharing, I am back with several projects!

      1. Play with Me QAL - July block will be released on Monday!
      2. WGACA projects (changed projects)
        1. Charity Quilts for DC General Homeless Shelter project - no progress
        2. SECRET quilt for exhibit - (FDJ) - kind of dropped, maybe, not sure :)

        7. Splendid Sampler - one more block done (see below)
        8. Road Home Row-A-Long - no progress on finishing my piece
        9. Pumpkin's bed - done, interesting project (see below)

        2. Jane T - no progress
        3. The SK project - no progress
        4. the 31000 Xs project - no progress
        5. Spirit cross stitch project - no progress
        6. Alice in Wonderland quilt - no progress
        7. As You Wish -  no progress

        10. Gyleen's BCP Mystery QAL - no progress

        --
One more block for Selvage Splendid Sampler:

Due to the tinytinytiny size of these hexies (about 3/8 of an inch) I couldn't really use selvages. So I used batiks, as they really pop against the black background!
It was fun to learn a new technique to make hexies: Hexies from a circle!, no template and this is the only way to make it work with this so tiny size for me!

        --
I received my blocks from my other June's partner for the  Hello Block Swap.
Blocks that I received from Jane

I love how wonky and scrappy the entire quilt will look!!! I cannot wait to have more block to arrange in a nice design!!

        --
I got my American quilt (renamed "Tu vuo' fa' l'americano") from the Professional Long Arm Quilter (Marcia from Marcia's Crafty Sewing & Quilting). She did an AMAZING JOB with the quilting. I asked her an all over meander with stars, but she added some custom quilting which makes it suuuper special!!
        Size: 55'' x 72''
        "Tu vuo' fa' l'americano"
Center blocks from the Americana QAL, Snail trail border from the Block Swap Adventure!

        Amazing quilting, from the back!

This was my first experience with a long armer... I won a coupon for a discount so I thought it was a great opportunity to try it, especially on this quilt that is a Xmas present for my dad. I am extremely happy with the experience and final result. Xmas is far away, so I started using the quilt (perfect for the 4th of July, right?) ;)

        --
Two projects that are kind of the "spur of the moment"

My cat name is Pumpkin... I thought that the fabric was just too perfect not to use it for her little cat bed. I used the wrong material for the "foam filling" so the structure doesn't hold up that well... so I tried to hang it and see if Pumpkin likes it... if not I can put it on the floor. It's summer here, so I am not sure if she wants to sneak in there any time soon... but in the meantime it's nice to look at it I guess :)

A zipper pouch, GPS holder... because we got a new GPS and I wanted a cover that matches a previous credit card wallet I made for my boyfriend :)
        --
And last, but not least... the Minion QAL is over!
These are the last two blocks I made

And then... I assembled all the blocks in the final layout!
I am quilting the three sections separately and then joining them with a QAYG method. I will also add a special border... stay tuned to see that!
I actually already quilted 5 of the blocks (backgrounds) so I may be able to finish the quilt in a month or so (I have a trip for work, so I won't be able to quilt much in the next weeks)! I am very excited!!!

This is this month pattern for my Play with Me QAL: Go board (done with embroidery).

If you want details on how to get the pattern

We have about 50 people playing along, it is so fun!!

This is my American Quilt top done! I am waiting to hear back from the quilter to see how to proceed, but my part is done!

Border: Snail Trails block received in my Block Swap Adventure
Left/right border: scrappy red piano border

        --
Since I am hosting and participating in a dozen QAL, swaps and hops, why not joining another one, right?? :) :)
        Well, I couldn't pass on this... it's a Minion QAL!! :)

I want to remind you that I am working on charity quilts,
and I would love your help!!
Quilts are for a quilt drive to help the kids in the DC General Homeless Shelter.
And you can help me by donating orphan blocks, partial blocks, or fabric (scraps, strips, leftover, uglies, whatever).
If you are willing to mail them to me, I could use them to make more quilts for these kids!!!
If you are up for a loving donation, please send me an email at tweloq[_at_]gmail[dot_com] or leave a comment here with your email address so I could give you my mailing address. I promise that your donation will be used to make some kids happy and feel more loved!!

No progress on this. But I have 2 or 3 quilt tops done... I just need to take them out of the box and get them quilted!

        ----
Before talking about the specific projects I worked on this week, let me share a wonderful tool that has been extremely useful for me to find motivation and inspiration to complete projects.

The tool is an app for smartphones called "1 Second Everyday" and the name of the app explains what it is :)
The creator of this app has a very powerful story and a good TED talk, so go and check him out!

The great thing for me in this app, is that you can have different "timelines" so I have one for my personal life and one for my Crafting life!! :) Having to record a second of my crafting life every day encouraged me to take out my projects and work even for just few minutes on them! Some days I got more done than others, but still every day I did something creative (because I had to record it) :)
To be honest, it is kind of hard to record when you are doing something crafty because we only have two hands :) but because the video is just one second anyway, you don't need to worry too much about the action, light, sound, etc... It's super easy and below you can see what I had after one month (30 seconds video)! Oh, the other cool thing is that you get the video "stitched" together (as they say) with one single click, no editing, no extra time required! The original video is a great quality but I compressed here to save space in my account :)

(this is the first time I try to embed a video here... it may not work, if so let me know!)

        --
These are my latest blocks for Pat's and Jane's Splendid Sampler

        Block 6, 7 and 8
To see all my blocks, check out My Sampler Journey page

        --
When partners in the Block Swap Adventure group tell me "choose whatever block you want" I tend to select challenging blocks with a gazillion of pieces! :)
I do that both to challenge myself and to try blocks that I would probably never choose if I had to make an entire quilt with them! This is definitely one of them!

Note: HST finish at 1 inch square! O_o the block is 12'' finished

The block has a gazillion of tiny HST but I think it turned out beautiful! Linda said that she likes traditional patterns, red and white and that scrappy is ok. I hope she likes this block! To my surprise it turned out extremely precise considering the amount of pieces!!

        --
For my Splendid Sampler, I asked people if they were willing to send me some of their selvages in exchange of something from me. Several generous people agreed to send me something so I am making them something in return.

A mini tote and a pin cushion!

The mini tote is perfect to keep the Splendid Sampler blocks... or if they choose to box the corners it becomes a great thread catcher basket. I hope my first generous donor likes it! I will make more because they are really fun and easy to make.

Early this month I shared the third block for my Play with Me QAL

I am looking forward to see boards shared by the people in the group! We have about 50 people playing along, it is so fun!!

If you didn't join, it's not too late!

And last, but not least, I want to remind you that I am working on charity quilts,
and I would love your help!!

I started assembling few quilt backs... but nothing worth sharing, just yet...

Pat and Jane announced the Splendid Sampler and can I not join such a fun project? Of course not!! :)
But I had to find my twists to make my journey different than anyone else's.

        Block 1
Fabric block pattern available at thesplendidsampler.com

I will make my blocks using selvages (on black background, idea from Riel Nason quilt) and I will use the same designs for crochet blocks for my "Mirror Mirror Afghan".
I will share all my blocks in the dedicated page "My Sampler Journey" so that I can post picture even in the middle of the week and I won't forget what I do :)

The crochet afghan is one of my three WGACA projects (to read more about this concept, read this previous post).

For the second project I designed and stitched a Stephen King's book cover
No pattern for my version of 11/22/63 book cover,
because I just found some cool fabric and sliced it as needed :)

And the third project in the WGACA is my own Jane T: I completed two more blocks!

And this is the progress on the final layout
        21 blocks done!!

Speaking of the WGACA project, I want to report the great success of the idea (to read more about this concept, read this previous post).

This is how the first page looked after was completely filled:

The fact that I had this piece of paper hanging next to my mirror and that I saw it every day multiple times a day it is the reason why I had the brilliant idea of using the Splendid Sampler designs in my Crochet Afghan project! If I didn't have that project on my wall (physically) for so long, I wouldn't have had that idea. So even some progress steps seem minor (like only making 10 crochet rows), it is still progress and it keeps the project running.

Since I completed that page, I decided to reassess the list of project and replace the Mirror Mirror Afghan (that now doesn't need push motivation, since it's up and running) with another project that needs a push (Quilts 4 Francel, the charity donation quilts). By the end of this page I will for sure have made great progress there and I will be so happy about it.

If you struggle with some UFO, give the WGACA approach and ideas a try... you may surprise yourself about how good it works :)

One "spur of the moment" project was my new ID holder. I had a plastic thing that holds my work id but the badge doesn't slide in smoothly and corners started peeling off. The solution? Make myself a nice, colorful and practical ID holder with some Tula Pink Fabric!!

I was inspired by this tutorial by Brooke at Killer B, but I didn't really follow it, as I had solid fabric on the back and I had velcro and a ribbon. So basically it is completely different, but still I was inspired by the tutorial and it is so easy that is good to link to it ;)

For the Block Swap Adventure I receive my January block from Michell and I made some extra postage stamp blocks for our block lotto

Early this month I shared the second block for my Play with Me QAL

Look at all the different color combinations that people will use in their game boards!

If you didn't join, it's not too late!

The forth challenge of Project Quilting (season 7) was launched last week and I jumped right in.
As mentioned before, I have a double challenge for myself: follow the theme of the PQ challenge ("Need a Vacation") and have a piece inspired by a "conventional" art piece (painting, sculpture, architecture, ...).

        Let me introduce you...

        Size: 21'' x 21''
        "Vacation from reality".

If you want to vote for me (number 21 ;)) after Sunday 2 CST or any of the others follow THIS LINK.

I really like the weird shapes and general compositions of Salvador Dali and Vacation to me means a nice sunset. I think I combined the two in an effective way with some applique, quilting and thread sketching.

Speaking of art and quilts... do you want to join a blog hop?

Still no progress here... so sad... but as mentioned above, now this is in my WGACA list so I will for sure make progress in the next month on this!!! :)
